Locks of Love 2006

I know this is old news, but I was going through some pics on my computer and I ran across these. I just have to share with you. I grew out my hair for a LONG time to donate to Locks of Love. Apparently I went a little overboard because my friend Tiffany said she was on the verge of a 'haircut intervention' it was so long. These pics are from September 2006, one month after I met Leland. He said when he met me he thought my hair was so long I reminded him of a pony. Ha!

Did you know that dogs like yogurt?

Our dog Lefty will eat almost anything. I have fed her bananas, avocado, oatmeal, watermelon (bad idea on that one), various other fruits and veg, and lots of meat. The other day I thought it would be fun to watch her try to lick the inside of a yogurt container. She used her paws and teeth and stretched out the mouth/top of the container until her tongue could reach the bottom of the cup. It was hilarious. There wasn't much down there to lick up once I ate the yogurt, but she gave it the good ole' college try anyway!!

Another funny Lefty moment....when we travel long distances she likes to get between your back and the seat. I will post some pics of us traveling from Angelo to Waco for Easter this year.

Hummer Mania 2011

The hummingbirds are out in full force in Schleicher County lately. It has been one of the more 'active' years that we have seen. We think it may be due to the drought. We placed two feeders on the back porch of the ranch. They usually swarm them in the early morning and evening at dusk. There is basically a 'waiting line' of hummers due to the low amount of openings to feed at. We enjoy watching them so much. This picture doesn't give the scene justice, but I will post it anyway.

Nevie and Kent are retired!

My wonderful mother and father-in-law have retired from State Farm after 30 years of running their agency. State Farm had a nice retirement dinner for them in April at Zentner's Daughter. The 'Farm' also sent them a rose bouquet arrangement with one rose for every year they have been in business. It was a really nice evening. Iris drove in from El Paso and Haley flew in from Austin. Nevie put together a photo slideshow of all their exciting State Farm moments. They have been honored with quite a few awards over the years for sales and production. They even earned trips to a couple of places overseas...Germany to name one. The evening turned emotional when Kent got up to speak about his career and more importantly, why he has worked so hard. He honored Nevie, Leland, and Haley in one of the sweetest speeches I have ever heard. Kent and Nevie have already been on several trips. They went on a two-week transatlantic cruise to Spain and Greece in May. There was a mini-baby shower/celebration at their dinner table when Leland called them (at $8 per minute or some insane amount) and told them that we are expecting a boy. Their server brought out a blue balloon for them. Congratulations Nevie and Kent. We are so happy for you! Happy Retirement!

24 Weeks

We had a milestone today. Leland was able to feel Catfish (that's what Leland and I call him) kick for the first time. We have determined that he doesn't like it when I lie on my back. He is usually pretty still when I am on my sides or sitting up. The pregnancy is going great. I feel fantastic and hope the heat is bearable through the summer. This could get interesting.....
We will be picking out a color for the walls of the nursery soon and painting. We are going with the Madras pattern from Pottery Barn Kids for our bedding. It is bright-colored patchwork plaid. I like the bright, cheery colors. Leland wanted to do camo, but that got the big VETO. I think we'll get him a camo diaper bag or something.
My next OB appointment is next week. No sono, just a regular appointment. It is disappointing when there is no sonogram; the sonograms are so much fun. I heard my doctor got a new sono machine and it cost around $400K. I am eagerly anticipating trying out the new technology. I posted a couple of pics of the baby bump and a great pic of me and my sis-in-law from the Patterson/Shields wedding in Christoval a couple of weeks ago. Congrats and best wishes to the new Mr. & Mrs. Dustin Patterson! Hope you all have a great week.

Attitude is Everything!

Aunt Judy forwarded me a great article a couple of months ago. It is about having a positive attitude. I am a firm believer that a great attitude equals a happy, healthy, productive life. Read this poem by Christian Larsen every morning to help your attitude be more positive.

Promise yourself:
* To be so strong that nothing can disturb your piece of mind.
* To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.
* To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.
* To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.
* To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and expect only the best.
* To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
* To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
* To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.
* To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.
* To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

Isn't that nice?? Have a great day!

Blue or Pink?

It's a boy!! We found out this morning that we are having a little boy. We are both thrilled. It is such a miracle to see this life forming in my womb on the sonogram screen. I just don't know if I even feel worthy to bring a baby into this world, but that doesn't stop him from growing and thriving in me. It's a wonderful feeling. I don't even have words. Baby boy looks good and his heartbeat was 138 beats per minute. Leland has his little hunting buddy now and I am excited to have a little guy around in a couple of months.
