Genny's Baby Shower

In June I went to Waco to help host a baby shower for my lifelong friend, Genny. We had a great turn-out for the shower. Genny looked great and got a lot of cute things. It was nice to see some friends that I haven't seen in awhile and catch up. Rebecca even came -- all the way from Chile! She is living there with her husband teaching school in English. She hardly ever gets to come home, so it was a special treat to see her. All the grandmothers were there and other family members of Genny's and Russ' attended also. The food was fabulous and the cookies were ALMOST too cute to eat. Congratulations Genny and Russ. We are so happy for you! May God continue to bless you during your pregnancy and as your life changes when Harper Nell arrives.

Lori & Jeff's Baby Shower

We helped host a nice couple's shower for Lori and Jeff in June at Ashley and Justin's house. We all had a great time and lots of yummy food! I didn't get many pictures. We always have good intentions to take lots of pictures, don't we? Lori and Jeff got lots of goodies for Georgia Grace and started her library also. Everyone brought a signed book instead of a card. We also had a completely pink dessert table -- pink M&Ms, watermelon, and sugar meltaway cookies with pink icing. It was too cute! Lori is pictured above in the center wearing the blue dress.

Whoop!

We had a neat opportunity to meet Reveille VIII two weeks ago in San Angelo. Reveille is in San Angelo for the summer with her handler, who is a member of the Corps. He lives in San Angelo and came home for the summer. Reveille came to the Aggie Alumni meeting and stood still for pictures for about an hour. She was an impressively trained dog -- so patient! She was beautiful. Her coat was immaculate. She goes to get groomed every week. She has a standing date with Reveille VII, who is retired and lives in College Station, at the groomers every week. The story of Reveille is neat. In 1931, a carload of Aggies were returning to College Station after a football game and a small black and white dog ran into the highway in front of their car. The driver slammed on his brakes but was unable to stop the car in time. The Aggies took the injured dog back to campus. The Cadets named the dog Reveille because the dog yelped at the sound of the buglers playing Reveille in the mornings. The Cadets adopted the stray as their official mascot and when Reveille I died on January 18, 1944, she was given a formal military funeral. There are a couple of cool traditions associated with Reveille. If Reveille is in class with her handler and she barks, then it is tradition for the prof to let class out early. Also, if Reveille sleeps on your bed in the dorms, then you must let her sleep where she lies....and the Cadet must sleep on the floor or elsewhere!! This is a pic of myself, Reveille, Cody, the handler, Johnna, and her daughter, Quincy. Thanks Cody and Reveille for a neat afternoon!

10th Annual River Trip

We headed east last weekend to float the Guadalupe with our Dallas friends. This is the 10th annual trip....we think. We kind of lost track of how many years we have done this. We had a great time, a lot of laughs, a lot of great food and bev, and a lot of memories. No one got arrested or too sick, so we count this year as a 'win'. Well, Leland did lose his sunglasses, but they were cheapies. After we floated the river, we enjoyed a great meal at San Marcos River Pub & Grill. If you are ever in San Marcos, I recommend this restaurant and the new Embassy Suites on I-35 @ McCarty Lane. It's a nice hotel with a free breakfast with made-to-order omelettes. On our way back to Angelo, we stopped at Bass Pro Shops for Leland. This is basically his idea of Disneyworld. We kept the visit to a 30-minute stop. I would love to see him run through there and do a 'supermarket sweep'. I used to love that game show! Looking forward to another trip with you all. It was a blast!

Girls Girls Girls!!

Welcome Georgia Grace and Macy Ann! Two of my sweet friends, Lori and Jennifer, delivered on the same day this week. Georgia arrived in San Angelo on Monday, July 19th at 6PM, 8 pounds, 4 ounces, 20 inches. Macy arrived in Dallas to proud parents Jennifer and Mike at 12:18PM, 6 pounds, 18 inches. We met Georgia this afternoon and she just cooed the entire time. She was the sweetest newborn I have ever seen. Jeff, the proud daddy, basically delivered her. The doctor stood behind him and coached him. Now, that is a family affair! Here is a picture of Leland holding Georgia. Congratulations to the proud parents!
