We had a neat opportunity to meet Reveille VIII two weeks ago in San Angelo. Reveille is in San Angelo for the summer with her handler, who is a member of the Corps. He lives in San Angelo and came home for the summer. Reveille came to the Aggie Alumni meeting and stood still for pictures for about an hour. She was an impressively trained dog -- so patient! She was beautiful. Her coat was immaculate. She goes to get groomed every week. She has a standing date with Reveille VII, who is retired and lives in College Station, at the groomers every week. The story of Reveille is neat. In 1931, a carload of Aggies were returning to College Station after a football game and a small black and white dog ran into the highway in front of their car. The driver slammed on his brakes but was unable to stop the car in time. The Aggies took the injured dog back to campus. The Cadets named the dog Reveille because the dog yelped at the sound of the buglers playing Reveille in the mornings. The Cadets adopted the stray as their official mascot and when Reveille I died on January 18, 1944, she was given a formal military funeral. There are a couple of cool traditions associated with Reveille. If Reveille is in class with her handler and she barks, then it is tradition for the prof to let class out early. Also, if Reveille sleeps on your bed in the dorms, then you must let her sleep where she lies....and the Cadet must sleep on the floor or elsewhere!! This is a pic of myself, Reveille, Cody, the handler, Johnna, and her daughter, Quincy. Thanks Cody and Reveille for a neat afternoon!
