Christmas 2010

Well, I realized I was way behind in my blogging. I haven't commented on Christmas 2010! I am sorry if this 'chronologically-confused' blog messes with your head, but here goes...

We started off December with a formal dance in San Angelo called Snow Ball. We had a blast and were just so happy to be invited. Linda Carpenter made me feel beautiful--she did my make-up on her day off. After the ball, we went to Grinner's in downtown San Angelo for a night cap. It is a new daiquiri bar, but they serve other drinks as well. Of course, no family photo is complete without Lefty, so we took a few with her as well.

On December 23rd, we drove to Waco to visit the McCalls. We hit up a couple of parties while there including my high school friends Christmas party. We can barely fit all the people in the picture since my friends continue to procreate. They are some cute little rascals, aren't they? It was so good to see everyone. Aunt Bette and Ole' Uncle Paul (OUP) came to my parent's house for Christmas from Pittsburg, TX. We enjoyed the visit so much. My mom had all the Waco family members over for lunch and it was so nice to see everyone. Even the Pendley's came....well, they are like family! We drove back to Angelo on Christmas Day and celebrated with Nevie and Kent. Of course, I ate too much and everyone spoiled us with too many presents. It was a nice Christmas and we rejoice that we have a reason to celebrate the special season because of God's special gift to us, his son. Hope you had a nice holiday too! Love you all.

Junior League Style Show 2011

As most of you know, I am a provisional in the Junior League of San Angelo this year. As one of our fundraisers for our community projects we have a style show and brunch. Of course, I am a complete sucker and stink at saying 'no' so I was asked to be a substitute model for someone who backed out at the last minute. Of course it was a blast and I really enjoyed having my hair and make-up done by two wonderful professionals. I didn't care for either of my outfits, but that's the price you pay when you tell the sales lady you will wear whatever she wants to put you in! Here are some pics of me with Ali and me with the other provisionals. Congratulations to the style show committee who raised $3,000 alone in cash by walking around and getting donations. This doesn't count their net proceeds from the ticket sales. Our net earnings will go towards our programs. Our largest program is called Food 2 Kids. It is for kids that are on free and reduced lunch in San Angelo ISD. We provide a sack full of shelf-stable foods (PB, crackers, juice boxes, granola bars, etc.) for them to take home and eat over the weekends. We currently serve over 600 children.

Burrr!!!

Folks, it's cold here in West Central Texas! The hubby is off work today and snuggling by the fire with the super-snuggler, AKA Lefty Lacy. The schools have been starting late this week and there have been some brown-outs and black-outs due to high electricity demand. Unfortunately, I have had many appraisals due this week and no sympathy from the out-of-town appraisal management companies. :( I have plugged on and it has actually been a blessing because now I feel caught up. The sleet started to fall on Tuesday morning around 4AM. I went to let Lefty out around 4:30 AM and it was slushy. By the time I took her out again at 7:30 AM, it was solid ice. It has snowed on and off since Tuesday and our HIGH temps have been around 23 with wind chills around 5 degrees and dipping as low as negative 1 degree. I am loving it! I love cold weather....but not necessarily ice. It makes me nervous on the road....mostly because I am scared of other idiots who drive too fast on the ice. Hope you're staying warm out there wherever you all.

Edward Torres Franco

Our condolences to Judy Lacy and family. Her father, Edward Franco passed last week on January 26th after a battle with esophageal cancer. He was 81. We could tell from what was said at his funeral that he was a respected man. Married 57 years to Molly, Edward was known for his strong handshakes, being friendly, his calm demeanor, a great sense of humor, and a big heart. At Christoval High School, Edward broke the 100-meter track record and was a part of the relay team that broke the record in the 440 relay. Throughout his life he continued to enjoy baseball, jogging, tennis, and golf. He loved music, travel, dancing, and visiting family. He served his country proudly in the Korean War with the U.S. Army 45th Armored Infantry Division stationed in Korea and Japan. Edward worked as a civilian at Goodfellow Air Force Base for 35 years. Mr. Franco was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where he enjoyed playing the guitar in his church choir until his illness. He was a devoted father to his four children: Deborah, Judy, Millie, and Eduardo. He had 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grands. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Franco family. God bless!
